About Elaine Corrigan

I am a qualified Play Therapist who follows the Ethical Principles and Guidelines of the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT) with an MA in Play Therapy from the University of Roehampton.

Before qualifying I worked extensively in Mental Heath Nursing within both Adult and Child & Adolescent Services . I am registered with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) and hold a Diploma in Mental Health Nursing and a BSc (Hons) in Practice Development in Mental Health. I have worked within a broad variety of settings including – In-Patient, Drug and Alcohol, Criminal Justice, Early Intervention in Psychosis Services, and Youth Offending Services. I maintain my registration with the NMC.

I have worked as a parent-infant therapist, helping caregivers who may be experiencing difficulties, for a variety of reasons, which affect the quality of their relationship with their baby. This role involved working with caregivers and their infants (up to two years of age), as well as pregnant mothers, offering psychotherapeutic intervention to promote a healthy relationship.

I have experience within the charity sector, delivering therapeutic intervention to children and young people who have experienced domestic violence and sexual abuse.

I currently work independently, receiving referrals from adoption & fostering services and schools. I have a specific interest in attachment theory, and trauma-informed practice.

My therapeutic skills enable me to deal with issues relating to abuse and neglect, domestic violence, emotional and behavioural difficulties, separation and loss. I provide support to both the child and the family.

My practice is child-centred and I am a passionate advocate for children’s therapeutic needs.
